Missions classes off and running!

October 16, 2008

It’s never too late to come to the Missions classes at Shoreline, 12:45pm to 2:15pm after church. We feed you two ways: tummy and mind. Lunch is on us as well as good fellowship. Teachers are rotating in and out, sharing what God has for us in going on Missions and what the Bible says.
We’d love to see you and tell your friends.

Men’s Stuff

October 16, 2008

Men,

There are lots of activities at Shoreline that you can take part in. Go to Community Outreach on this website and check out the various events that men are involved in. The variety is such that there has to be something that fits YOU.

Why do we get involved in Bible studies?

It’s not to be a “better Christian”, or act properly or acquire bonus points with God. It’s because God has stuff he wants you to know about and internalize. When we internalize scripture we can draw on it in daily life; good times and tough.

There are a number of Bible studies happening each week and you’re welcome at any and all. Saturday mornings at 8:00 am guys meet in Room 7 at the church. Wednesday mornings you’re welcome at Hullaballoo restaurant for breakfast and fellowship at 7:30am. Tuesday mornings there is an Inductive study in Room 7 at Shoreline that is repeated on Wednesday mornings at 6:30am. We make the coffee, you bring a Bible. The last two studies are inductive; meaning we read the scripture together, break it down to it’s finest points then apply to our lives. The Leader does the homework in the commentaries and  other resources to make sure the cultural context is examined and the best intent of the verses are understood. All questions welcome, all men welcome. If you accepted Christ yesterday or have studied the Bible for years, please consider yourself invited to join us. The conversation is lively and all sessions end in needs being prayed for.

See you there!

Male and Female realities in communication

October 14, 2008

Did you know?

Women’s conversational topics tend to be closer to the self and more emotional than men’s,

Mens’ conversations are an informal method of sharing solutions to everyday problems,

Men expect fast-paced conversations that stay on the surface, that enable them to give and receive practical tips, and that are usually pragmatic or fun,

Wome expect conversations to be a major source of emotional support as they attempt to understand themselves and others.

And,

Women are likely to be surprised and even angered by men’s “immediate solution” approach.

These are generalizations of course but if the shoe fits, wear it!
