Grief Recovery Support Group
September 30, 2009
If you are grieving the loss of a loved one, you don’t have to walk the journey alone. The Grief Recovery Support Group is a safe place to share with others who are on their own grief journeys. If your heart is hurting, we’re here to listen and offer support. A new group will be starting this fall. For further information, contact Stephanie Maxey at 831.655.0100, x336 or smaxey@shorelinechurch.org.
New Small Groups
September 30, 2009
We are starting new small groups all the time here at Shoreline Community Church. We want to help you find a smaller community of people where you can learn and find eternal friendships. If you are interested in finding a group you can begin to gather with, please fill out the Small Group Interest Form that is linked in red on the right side of this page or contact Stephanie Maxey at smaxey@shorelinechurch.org or 831.655.0100.
Anchor Bay Diving Deep #3
September 29, 2009
This week’s Diving Deep question is: Does God to us? How can I hear him?
Throughout the Bible, there are times God spoke out loud to people (Moses heard God talk to him lots of times.) For most of us, though, God speaks mostly through his Word, the Bible. The Bible is so full of truth that we can find answers there to all of life’s big questions.
Sometimes, though, God uses other ways to talk to us. God might send a wise person to give you the advice you need (see Exodus 18: 13- 27). Or he might show you what to do by making other options impossible (see Acts 16: 6-10). Sometimes the Holy Spirit might put the right decision in your heart (see Romans 8: 14, 16).
The most important thing to remember is that no matter how God communicates, his message will never go against the Bible. So if you get advice from someone, but that advice goes against what the Bible teaches, you can be sure that the advice didn’t come from God.
Food Drive for Monterey County
September 29, 2009
In today’s world, people are becoming more and more dependent on the resources around them. One of these resources is Shoreline’s own food pantry which helps feed about 50 people a month on average. This food pantry is stocked by the Food Bank of Monterey County who is in need of food donations from the surrounding community. Through the end of November, Community Outreach is holding a food drive to help our friends at the Food Bank of Monterey County so they can help us. They are in need of various items including powdered milk, canned/dried fruit, canned vegetables, beef stew and many more items. For a complete list of food needed and to donate, please go to the donation bins in the lobbies both downstairs and upstairs.
Outreach Happenings for 9.22.09
September 23, 2009
Community Outreach Ministry is up to great things! We want to let you know all about it and how YOU can get involved!
First of all, THANK YOU to the volunteers who showed Christ’s love to the residents of the Monterey Pines Convalescent Home and the Women’s Crisis Center. These volunteers are such a blessing to the community at large.
Join Outreach THIS Saturday, September 26th as we beautify and landscape our own church to make it a pleasing place of worship to all who come here on Sunday mornings! This is a worthwhile event and greatly improves the experience of attendees and guests to the church.
Shoreline is partnering with the Panetta Institute for the Monterey County Reads program. This project connects volunteers who are willing and able to help local school children learn to read with the after school programs with these children in them. We are in the process of coordinating with the Panetta Institute so get in on this fantastic opportunity to impact the life of a local school child.
The economic downturn has affected everyone… especially those who don’t have consistent access to food. In light of this, we are holding a food drive for the Monterey County Food Bank. We are helping them specifically because their food goes to help supply Shoreline’s own food pantry. Please donate non-perishable food in the bins in both the lobby and upstairs.
As the holidays approach, Outreach becomes involved in may different activities. Two of the main activities Outreach supports are Operation Christmas Child and Angel Tree. Both of these programs are not possible without willing and able volunteers to fill boxes, deliver gifts and do so much more.
If you are interested in these or other opportunities to serve, please call 655-0100 x338 or email Debra Federico at dfederico@shorelinechurch.org or Megan Huff at mhuff@shorelinechurch.org.
Anchor Bay Diving Deep
September 23, 2009
This week’s Dive Deep question is: Why can’t I see God? How do we know God is real?
There are a number of things we can’t see, yet we know they’re real. We know the wind is real because we can feel it on our skin or because we can see it blow the leaves off a tree.
Because God is a spirit, he’s invisible unless he chooses to reveal himself in some way for a special occasion (Here are some examples you can read about in your Bible when God showed up in a special way: Exodus 3: 4-6; 1 Kings 19: 11-13; Matthew 3: 16-17).
Only a few people in history have met God in these ways. For the rest of us, there are other ways we can “know” God exists, even though we don’t see him.
First, we know by faith that God exists. The Bible says he’s real. So those who believe in the Bible believe God is real. (Take a look at what Hebrews 11:6 says). Second, we know God exists because of the impact he has on our lives. Just like we know the wind is real because he changes our lives. He lets us know when we do wrong. He comforts us when we’re sad. He answers our prayers. And the list goes on and on. Those who have faith know that God is real because he really is active in their lives.

Outreach Partners with Panetta Institute
September 17, 2009
Shoreline Community Church is teaming up with the Panetta Institute to assist with the Monterey County Reads Program. The Monterey County Reads program was established in 1997 to help children in Monterey County learn how to read. They accomplish this task by training and utilizing their volunteers in local after school reading programs in Carmel, Monterey Peninsula, North Monterey County, Salinas City Elementary, Santa Rita Union, Spreckels Union, Soledad, and San Antonio Union Unified School Districts. In its first decade of assisting our community, the Monterey County Reads program had over 1,800 volunteers serve more than 85,000 hours of service—what an impact! If you are interested in volunteering for this wonderful cause, please stop by the Community Outreach booth on Sunday morning or contact Megan Huff at mhuff@shorelinechurch.org or 655-0100 ext. 338.
Princess Tea Party
September 17, 2009
Grandmothers, Mothers, Daughters and Friends:
Princesses of all ages are invited to join us for a princess tea party on October 10th from 3-5 pm.
There is no charge for this event, we simply ask that you bring your favorite tea party treats to share. You can sign up for what dish you would like to bring in the lobby or email Eliza Fitzgerald.
We are also looking for volunteers to sponsor a table to decorate. You can sign up for this in the lobby or by email as well.
We are looking forward to this fun chance to get dressed up and celebrate as the beautiful princess that God made us to be.
Outreach Update for 9.15.09
September 15, 2009
The Community Outreach team is up to a lot, especially as the holidays come around!
This past weekend Outreach’s presence was felt from Pacific Grove to Salinas as their volunteers spread the love of Jesus to athletes at the Pacific Grove Triathlon and to the residents of the El Dorado Motel going though a rough patch in life in Salinas.
This coming weekend, Outreach’s volunteers will fellowship and worship with the residents of the Monterey Pines Convalescent Home this Saturday from 9:45-11:30 a.m. Come and join as they bless these deserving people.
For the ladies, this Sunday is also the second visit to the Women’s Crisis Center from 7-8:30 p.m. If you have an encouraging word or talent, please come on out.
The holidays are practically here which means Outreach is as busy as ever. They have several programs during the holiday season including:
* Trunk or Treat
* Thanksgiving at the Fairgrounds
* Angel Tree
* Operation Christmas Child
If you are interested in these or other opportunities to serve, please contact Deb Federico at dfederico@shorelinechurch.org or Megan Huff at mhuff@shorelinechurch.org.
