Operation Christmas Child

October 30, 2009

OCC0The holiday season is upon us which means Operation Christmas Child is here! Starting THIS Sunday, November 1st, Community Outreach will have pre-decorated Operation Christmas Child boxes as well as boy and girl labels available in the lobby. You can be a part of this project by picking up a shoebox and a label, filling the box with treasures for a boy or girl, and returning the filled box to the church by November 15th.  You can also participate by providing your own box and printing out a label available for download below. Thank you for helping Shoreline bless these children!

If you plan to Dive In, get your fingers printed!

October 28, 2009

If you are planning to “Dive in for 2010″ to Children’s ministry as a new volunteer, stop by and get your fingers printed on Sunday, November 22.  Providing a safe environment for our children is important to us and so we require that everyone who works with our children be fingerprinted.  On November 22, we will offer in house fingerprinting from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.  You will find us set-up just outside the Shoreline Bookstore.  Please bring a picture ID with you that day.  If you have any questions, contact Stephanie Maxey

10.26.09 Outreach Update

October 27, 2009

COMheader0The holidays are officially here and Outreach is gearing up for a fantastic season of giving and sharing with not only our local community, but the world. We have a lot going on and wanted to let you know how YOU can get involved!

This weekend is full of fun and empowering events including Shoreline’s Halloween Family Festival, Shoreline Clean-Up Day and Women’s Shelter visit.

shorelinelogoBlackWEB0Shoreline Clean-Up Day is a vital part of the maintenance of our church and especially important around the holidays and after major events such as the Halloween Family Festival on Friday night. This month, Shoreline Clean-Up Day will be the day after the festival so we will have our work cut out for us. Please consider this opportunity to serve and, if you feel led, please join us from 9 a.m. to 2p.m. THIS Saturday, October 31st.

The food drive for the Monterey County Food Bank is still going on and we are looking for non-perishable and canned food. As an added bonus this year, local television station KION will be broadcasting LIVE from Shoreline on Wednesday, November 18th.  Please consider donation to this worthy cause and drop off your food either on Sundays or on November 18th during the broadcast.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities to serve, please contact Deb Federico or Megan Huff.

Are the Holidays as tough as people say?

October 22, 2009

It’s commonly said that folks in painful, isolated or lonely situations struggle mightily during the holidays. While it’s certainly true for many, it’s not universal. There are many that pull things together, engage in family rituals, see family members on a once a year visit; and get it together for a while, actually feeling positive. For the latter it’s after the holidays when things get really tough. Celebrations are over, dark and gloomy weather rules the day, credit card bills come due and there’s little to look forward to, especially if you’re not a football fan. If you or someone you know is in the first group, by all means take advantage of Church based holiday support programs. If you’re in the second group, enjoy the holidays but please don’t hesitate to admit when things hit that you’re struggling. Talk to your Pastor, a counselor, join a support or recovery group. No shame in it, only hope and help.

Missions update

October 22, 2009

For all who gave to fill the container bound for the Ivory Coast we say blessing and thank you. It’s finally there! When sending goods in a container to Africa the perils and obstacles are incredible as we learned on our very steep learning curve. Our mission coordinator, Patience Ogele is now there and is taking pictures to send back showing how the container and it’s contents are being used in her husbands church. Patience will live there from here on out, having finished her time of study in the US. We are excited about the goals for Missions in 2010 and will keep you posted. In the works are: trips to Guatemala, Mexico, Mission classes and training, a grand fundraising event and more! If you’re interested in Missions contact Pastor Dennis or Coordinator Phil Choate.

What’s new in Men’s Ministry?

October 22, 2009

Men’s Ministry is led by the Men’s Team and new leaders have recently been installed on the Team. We are blessed to have Pete Lee as the Director of Men’s ministry, Abraham Wilson as Assistant Director, Bill Ragland as Recorder, and Dave Layus as Event Coordinator. Pastor Dennis will continue to provide liason and oversight.

Come say hi to any of these guys at the Shoreline Halloween Family Festival, Friday October 30th. We’ll be doing the cooking. Just like men, always around the food!
