Outreach Update for 11.30.09
November 30, 2009
Community Outreach is as busy as ever with the holidays here!
AngelTree is in full effect and angels may be picked up in the lobby of the church one more time THIS Sunday, December 6th during all three services. The deadline to get your presents back to the church is Sunday, December 13th after the 11:30 service. Thanks so much for considering such a blessing to the child of an incarcerated parent.
December’s Serve Saturday is quickly approaching. Join us on Saturday, December 12th from 9 am-2 pm as we prepare for the Christmas season in the Fellowship Center here at Shoreline.
Another exciting opportunity we have to serve this season is participating in the Salvation Army Bell Ringing campaign. Funds raised during this campaign go to help families in transition with meals, clothing and toys. If you are interested in this or any other opportunity to serve, please contact Megan Huff or Deb Federico.

What do I do when I don’t know what decision to make?
Like we learned in class this week, one of the jobs of the Holy Spirit is to remind you of God’s Word. But you can’t be reminded of something if you don’t learn it first so here is a list of scriptures that you can look up to help you when you need to make a decision (I’m putting the reference and the first few words of the verse). Look them up, pick a couple to memorize, and watch how the Holy Spirit reminds you of these verses when you need them:
Deuteronomy 6:5-6, “and you must love the Lord your God…”
Isaiah 40:8, “The grass withers and the flowers…”
Matthew 19:19, “Honor your father and mother…”
Luke 6:31, “Do to others…”
John 14:26, “But when the Father sends the Advocate…”
Romans 12: 1-2, “and so, dear brothers and sisters…”
Galatians 6:7, “don’t be misled- you cannot mock…”
Ephesians 6: 11-12, “put on all of God’s armor…”
Philippians 4:8, “and now dear brothers and sisters…”
James 1:5, “if you need wisdom, ask…”

Outreach Update for 11.23.09
November 23, 2009
Community Outreach has been as busy as ever serving the Central Coast.
This past week we were honored to be a host of KION’s Holiday Harvest Food Drive. THANK YOU for all of the generous contributions and donations. We were able to collect over a TON of food and raise over $500 for the Monterey County Food Bank. Also, thank you to those of you who joined us at the Monterey Pines Convalescent Home this past weekend. It was a great experience.
THIS Saturday, November 28th from 9 am-2 pm is our monthly Shoreline Clean-Up Day. Please come out and join us as we maintain and beautify the grounds of Shoreline PLUS decorate for Christmas. There is plenty of work to be done so feel free to stop by even if it’s for a little bit.
Angel Tree is HERE! Angel Tree provides Christmas presents for the children of incarcerated parents. These gift requests come in the form of angels. Pick up YOUR angel in Shoreline’s lobby THIS Sunday, November 29th and NEXT Sunday, December 6th. The deadline to turn in your gifts is Sunday, December 13th after the third service.

This week’s question is: What are demons? Should I be afraid of them?
Demons are angels who rebelled against God at the same time the devil, the prince of demons, rebelled. God threw them out of heaven but has permitted some of them to be active in the world until the time he has planned to banish them to hell. Demons can sometimes trouble people through temptation or other forms of harassment such as illness. That’s why the Bible tells Christians to be ready by putting on their spiritual armor (see Ephesians 6: 10-12).
It’s important to remember that although demons try to work against God’s plans, they are totally powerless against him. When Jesus was on earth, he cast out many demons from people, and when he died and rose again, he won the final victory over the devil and the demons.
So Christians can be sure that God will protect them from harm by demons (see 1 John 5:18). But we are called to be on guard against the temptations and suffering the devil and his helpers can trouble us with (see 1 Peter 5:8-9). So put on that spiritual armor- and don’t be afraid because God is way bigger and way stronger than any demon and Jesus has already won the battle!
Middle School Christmas Party | December 9th
November 20, 2009
Hey… IT’S CHRISTMAS!!
Christmas is amazing and because it’s so amazing, we’ve decided to hold an amazing Christmas party just for you. Come hangout at the church with your friends and leaders for a crazy cool time of Christmas treats, traditional Christmas games with a hint of a shoreline spin to it, and lots of fun on December 9th from 6pm to 9pm. If you would like to bring a dish, snack or treat, that would be sweet!! Don’t forget those cheesy Christmas sweaters that make you want to punch a baby…joking, but something like that. Anyways, you should be there, it’s going to be an awesome, Christmas-y time….just the way we like it.
Adult Singles Gatherings on a Break
November 19, 2009
This week on 11/19 we will be having our last Thursday Evening gathering at the church until after the new year. Please be in prayer for God’s direction in the next season. We are excited to see what God has planned for this ministry and the new things to come with Shoreline’s new pastoral team. The Singles events and activities will still continue (see the calendar at the connections center in the lobby) and there are plenty of great small groups and gatherings going on that you can join. If you would like to join a small group, you can visit the small groups tab on our website or fill out the Small Group Interest Form to let us know what you are looking for.
Please feel free to email Dave Hopkins with any idea’s or thoughts. God bless you and we look forward to a new season of ministry in the coming year!
