Support Staff
After serving in several other areas of the church, Romel Retzlaff now assists Pastor Kevin as his right hand and serves as the brain’s third lobe for Ben Spangler, our pastor of ministry development. Romel holds a BA in speech communication and English, has taught special ed for three years, and has served as a librarian for three years at Alisal High School. She has been attending Shoreline since 1999, and loves working with the Shoreline team. She has a genuine compassion and servant’s heart for all who need a little help. Romel is married to Jonathan, and they have three adorable little boys, Christian, and twins Joshua and Caleb.
Jillian serves on the Spiritual Development team. Her desire to serve God and her love for people are what called her to work in ministry. Bible studies, small groups and genuine fellowship have been very important in her own spiritual growth, and have helped deepen her relationship with God; in turn, her passion is to help others further and strengthen their own walk with Christ. Jillian has been attending Shoreline since 2006 and has been on staff since 2010. Jillian and her husband, Stephen, married in October 2010. They had their first child, Ella, in December 2012, and they love their life together and their new roles as parents!
Jeanette is the nursery coordinator and has attended Shoreline Community Church since 1997. She has been involved in children’s ministry for over 40 years. Growing up in Edwardsville, IL, Jeanette was involved in her church’s bus ministry as a teen, and she has continued to serve children in many capacities since then. She attended Christ for the Nations Bible Institute in Dallas, TX, where she met Vince, her husband of 30 years. Jeanette and Vince live in Carmel Valley and have five children, Christine, Natalie, Jana, Matt, and Caitlin; and three grandchildren, Debbie, Tim and Siena.
Daniel Killough serves as one of our middle school ministry’s interns, leading games and small groups on Wednesday nights and planning monthly events for the students. Daniel has a passion to see students come into a loving relationship with Jesus early in life and continue to grow as believers. For years, he has been actively involved in Shoreline’s youth ministry, both as a student and a volunteer. After graduating from Monterey High School, Daniel began his undergraduate degree in graphic design at MPC, and began volunteering in the middle school program. He now works part-time with our middle school students, helps in both the high school and college ministries, and volunteers in the communications department, designing digital signage and banners for the main services.

Cookie has been Shoreline’s receptionist for 11 years. Cookie fields all calls and tends to all visitors coming into the office, and she helps Shoreline’s various ministries as needed. She is also the assistant to the executive pastor, handling his day to day schedule. She has been a member of Shoreline for 13 years, and her time on staff has been instrumental in her spiritual growth and her walk with the Lord. Cookie and her husband Phil have been married 38 years. They have a son, Brad, daughter-in-law Amy, and two granddaughters, 10-year-old Kaylee and 7-year-old Kyndle, who are Cookie’s and Phil’s absolute joys!

Nancy Koontz is the church bookkeeper. She processes all monies going in and out of the church, balances the books, and creates reports for the ministry heads and the leadership team. Nancy and her family have been attending Shoreline Church since 1997. She quickly started volunteering with the tape ministry and doing the books for then missions pastor Craig Ludrick, and she has remained the church bookkeeper for 10 years since then. Before coming to Shoreline, Nancy worked in a bank for two years and was bookkeeper for a chiropractic office for four years. Nancy lives mid-Carmel Valley with her husband of 22 years, Alan. Using the yours, mine, and ours formula, they have six children: Jason, Daniel, Joseph, Megan, Samantha, and Grant.

Nancy Cahalan is a licensed marriage and family therapist available for counseling services for Shoreline. Nancy is glad to assess your individual needs and will refer you to appropriate community resources. She is a native to the Monterey Peninsula, and her experience includes over 16 years of counseling couples, families, and individuals. Nancy and Steve have been married for 17 years and live in Carmel Valley.
Scott Curtis is responsible for the maintenance and beautification of our church facility. Scott is a California native, living in Monterey county for 30 years. Scott has been in the construction trade for 27 years. Scott is married to wife Lori a local Realtor Associate and has three daughters Courtney, Caitlyn and Payton. Scott loves the opportunity to use his skills to serve, by keeping the property maintained.

Rick Simek works to keep our facilities clean and ready for our family on Sunday mornings, as well as our many groups, to come in and worship, study and generally enjoy our God and His Word. He enjoys volunteering and can be seen most likely anywhere he might be able to help. Hailing originally from New York, Rick and his parents resided in New Hampshire for some years. He decided to move out to the Monterey Peninsula area after visiting the area.

Donna was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula and currently lives here with her family. She has been married for over 30 years to her husband Dave and have been blessed with two children, Marty and Amy. Her family has owned and operated a local restaurant for over 50 years and is a staple on the fisherman’s wharf. While working at the restaurant she learned valuable skills that has helped her in the role of Hospitality Coordinator on Sundays. Along with being a part of the Shoreline family for the past 15 years, she enjoys playing tennis around the peninsula.
