Exit It Hume Update #1

On June 27, 2011, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Andrew

Well it’s Monday morning and the campers are still sleeping after a long first day. Swimming, volleyball, hiking around the lake, an amazing chapel service, and a great opening drama made for some sleepy campers.

Our opening day of camp has shown us how great this week will be. With our cowboy theme, ALL IN,  this year the opening drama started with a full sized steam train coming through the back wall onto the stage. Quickly we were pulled into the old west with six shooters blasting and old west brawls. Through the drama the story of David has begun. It’s exciting to see how they interweave the stories of the bible into the drama throughout the week to pull the students into the Biblical narrative. The stories we walk through this week will stick with these students for life.

Students reaction to the first day…

Sierra Struz – “This is amazing! Our speaker is a great story teller.”

Jonathan Hugo – “The guns in the drama were crazy!”

Exit Leaving for Hume Lake

On June 26, 2011, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Andrew

It’s 5:30 am Sunday the 26th so we are only two and a half hours from check in for this years trip to Hume Lake. In the next several hours students will be packing their last few things, getting hugs from mom and dad, trying not to show they are nervous, and getting more excited about camp. If you ever went away from home at this age then you know the mixed bag of hope, joy, and tension these young students feel. Please pray for our students today that they can feel great comfort with their counselors and friendship with one another.
A couple years ago I started calling the bus trip to camp the “magic bus” because even the kids that haven’t met a single person going on the trip before they get on the bus get off with someone they call their best friend. Please pray that the friendships made this week can bring encouragement and hope in the life’s of the students.
Well 5:30 has become 5:40 so it’s time for me to get rolling so check in will be ready when the families arrive.

Middle School Hume Updates

On June 24, 2011, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Andrew

Next week, June 26th – August 2nd, the Shoreline middle school group will be heading to Hume Lake summer camp. We will be meeting at the church at 8am Sunday morning and making the drive from the coast over to the heat of the valley then up into the mountains. Hume Lake Christian Camp is locate on the beautiful Hume lake in Kings Canyon . During the week the middle schoolers will enjoy swimming, boating, huge group games, day hikes, concerts, and amazing speakers. For all who go this will truly be a high light of this summer and their middle school years. Check back often as Pastor Andrew will be updating us on all the kids are doing at camp. On each post feel free to leave comments or a short message to the students as a comment.

For more information on this years camp theme read below or check out humelake.org

This years theme is: ALL IN

All In explores the lives of Saul and David, examining what it takes to be a person “after God’s own heart,” regardless of the circumstances.

Too often we selfishly seek approval, wisdom, and victory without first seeking the will of God. All In explores how David managed to be called a “man after God’s own heart” despite his human failings, and how Saul lost God’s blessings and succumbed to his pride, jealousy, and fear. Through this theme, we will learn to cultivate a passion to seek God, emulate His character, and strive to be men and women after God’s own heart.

Theme Verse: Psalms 40:8

I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”

EXIT MISSIONS TRIP

July 25th – Aug 2nd $200

Limited Space Sign Up Now!!!

That’s right it’s almost time for our middle school missions trip. We will be meeting here at the church Monday July 25th and heading to Corvallis, OR for 8 days and 7 nights of serving God and having fun. This year we are serving a new church plant in Corvallis helping them connect with their community through service projects, prayer walks, and surveys. God has blessed them in a huge way by gathering a great team to get this church off the ground including one of our students who’s family has moved to OR to join the team. So, here is a great chance to give back to God a this summer.

We are going to serve, but we will also be having a lot of fun. Our days will be spent working and our evenings will be spent having fun and getting to know the people of Corvallis. The area is truly blessed with natural beauty. During our trip we will be taking several day hikes and enjoying all that the Master Artist has created. In addition to this we will be making several stops for fun on the way home.

During our time in Corvallis we will be staying at several homes of people from a local church. This is a missions trip, so its not the Hilton. You will need to bring a sleeping bag and pillow. If you have an air mattress or can get one I would highly recommend bringing it along. We will have full showers where we are staying but you will need to bring your own toiletries and towel. This time of the year can be pretty hot in Corvallis, so make sure to pack for hot days and warm to cool nights. You will need to bring at least two work outfits plus any other clothes you will need for the trip. The cost of the trip pays for all meals other than three fast food meal on the way there and three for the trip back. Plus we will be going a few fun places so bring spending money as you see fit. As a guide $60-$80 dollars is the recommended range.

Music players are okay for the drive but will be deposited with Pastor Andrew for our time in Corvallis. You may bring your cell phones but you will only be given a time in the morning and another in the evening for calls home.

This is a trip you don’t want to miss so get your spot today!

As your student moves up this might be the time for you to get involved so talk to Pastor Andrew about what volunteering with Exit Middle School group can be for you.

Also we have a lot planned for the summer. We have weekly events and service projects for the middle school students and their parents to enjoy. Check back soon for updates and info on all summer events!
