TRIATHLON AT PACIFIC GROVE 2012
It is that time of year again when we get to practice our Organic Outreach with people from all over the world. Community Outreach Backpack And School Supply Drive

On June 13, 2012, in Community Outreach, by CommunityOutreach

Back to school after summer vacation – what an exciting time for children as they look forward to their new classes, seeing friends and shopping for school supplies! Yet this is also a difficult time for many children in our community…Did you know that in Monterey County:

  • There are over 3,500 homeless students?
  • More than one quarter of children live in poverty?
  • Nearly 70% of students qualify and are enrolled in the Free/Reduced Price Meal Program?
(Based on the 2010-11 school year, the latest for which data is available)

Shoreline Community Church’s Annual Backpack and School Supply Drive is an annual event, aimed to assist the county in supplying children in need with backpacks filled with supplies. We believe every child deserves to go to school prepared to learn! So many of these children face obstacles to their education and development and their families simply cannot afford basic school supplies.

You can help!!! Will you partner with us to serve these children in need? Our drive begins July 1st and will continue until July 29th. We need donations of:

  • Backpacks
  • Binders, Filler Paper and Composition Books
  • Crayons, Pencils, Markers and Pens
  • Glue Sticks and Scissors (kid-safe)
  • Calculators and other supplies that will help our children go back to school, confident that they can do their best without having to worry about not having what they need

Look for the Backpack Drive barrels around Shoreline Community Church. Thank you for participating in this opportunity to help children succeed in school and for meeting a crucial need in our community!

If you would like to help put the backpacks together, fellowship and have a good time, join us on August 4th, from 9a-12p in the Pacific Room at Shoreline.

If you have any questions, please contact Timothy & Kathy Hobbs at backpacks@shorelinechurch.org.

Rebuilding Together – What a Blessing!

On May 17, 2012, in Community Outreach, by CommunityOutreach

The Rebuilding Together Project for Frank and Emma Aguillon on May 5th in Castroville was a huge success both physically and spiritually. Everyone was working so hard, and you could feel God there, cheering us on and filling us with joy & love. What a blessing that God had sent us such a lovely couple to help. Frank and Emma, themselves, have helped so many people over the years.

Thank you to everyone for their help, from the painters to the gardeners, to the contractors, to the house cleaners, to the tile layers, to the electricians, to the plumbers. It was an amazing site to see everyone working together for God!

Click here to see pictures of the Rebuilding Together Project.

Once again, thank you for having a heart like Jesus!!!

Rebuilding Together With Community Outreach

On April 9, 2012, in Community Outreach, by CommunityOutreach

Please join Rebuilding Together and Community Outreach on Saturday May 5th from 9-2 p.m. to help bless an 83 year old veteran and his 79 year old wife with dementia. Their home is on Main Street in Castroville and needs a number of things to help make it safe for them to live in. A few of the things it needs are painting, work on the front door that has a one inch gap at the bottom, the floor under the toilet is sinking and a handicap-accessible toilet. There will also be some cleaning and yard work needed.

We will start the day with bagels and donuts, and then on to work with a break for lunch, which will be provided.

So, if you can swing a hammer, paint or just clean, please consider helping and sign up at the Connection Center or at the Community Outreach Booth. Questions? Contact Chris Larson.

Thank you for having a heart like Jesus!

“Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of  you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
James 2:15-17 (NIV)
