Let God’s light shine through you to the one’s we serve, so that they may know His love too!
WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
- Monterey Pines Convalescent Visit, May 7th
Thank you to the volunteers that helped make Mother’s Day special for the mothers at Monterey Pines. We are so blessed to be able to share with the residents. A very special “thank you ” to Abraham Wilson for performing the song that he wrote for his mother. - Rebuilding Together, May 7th
We started the day with prayer, coffee, bagels & donuts. Then it was off to doing landscaping/weed-whacking, filling up dumpsters with unwanted items/garbage and cleaning interior wall with disinfectant. Thank you to all of you that gave their heart and time by working hard to help a woman in need. Please see the Community Outreach Flickr for the pictures of our day!
FOOD DONATIONS
Please help feed a person in need – donate food such as canned meats like chicken, tuna, roast beef or salmon. Also beef stew, chili, canned beans and breakfast cereal. We so appreciate all of the donations you have given , Thank you for wanting to help!
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND:
- Women’s Shelter Visit, Sunday, May 15th
I know we said it last time but the programs got switched, so this Sunday really is “Bingo Night“. Come have fun playing Bingo and maybe winning a prize. You can fellowship a little too, as these women really need Jesus in their lives.
WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS MONTH:
- CHOMP Blood Drive, May 22nd
Help save a life by donating blood. If you can donate, please sign up for your appointed time and pick up you paperwork at the Community Outreach Booth.
- Annual Backpack and School Supply Drive
Our annual drive starts May 22nd, and the need has increased dramatically from last year. Every child deserves to go to school prepared to learn, so let’s do our part to make that happen. We are still looking for a project coordinator and team.

WHAT’S HAPPENING NEXT MONTH:
- “Get on the Bus”, June 18th
We will be sponsoring a bus of children that will be going to Soledad Prison to visit their Dad’s for Father’s Day. It will be our responsibility to supply them with a “stay connected bag” with things in it such as disposable cameras, pens, boxes if note cards and envelopes, construction paper, boxes of crayons, postage stamps, etc. These things will be used to help the kids stay connected to their Dad’s by allowing them to send them letters, pictures, hand made cards and such. These children have a difficult life and we are so glad that God has given us the opportunity to give them some love.
Pick up your May 2011 calendar at the Community Outreach Booth to find out all that’s happening this month!
If you have any questions or would like more information about any of the above listed events, or any other Community Outreach activities, please stop by the booth this Sunday, shoot us an email, or call us at the church. Thank you for your service to the Lord in coming alongside us and taking part in the Community Outreach Ministry!

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord”
Romans 12:11 (NIV)
The month of July has been quite an exciting and busy month in Community Outreach! We have helped out at Spirit West Coast while enjoying some amazing teaching, inspiring music, and great fellowship. We’ve visited the Convalescent Home and the Women’s Shelter, and have been able to provide the Shelter with serious necessities that they use daily (and they are extremely grateful)! This week, we are in the middle of VBS in which the Community Outreach team has taken on a huge role of teaching our Shoreline kids about what it means to be the hands, feet, mouth and heart of Jesus by loving and serving others. Yet, the biggest even for the month of July was our annual Back-To-School Backpack and School Supplies drive, another outreach event which both the children and the parents of our Shoreline Church community were able to participate in together. Our wonderful Community Outreach volunteers, Tina-Marie Morales and Mary Hennessey worked together tirelessly to make this event not only run smoothly, but make a huge impact, not only on those who are receiving the backpacks but also those who have donated, volunteered time and finances, and just everyone involved. Tina-Marie wrote a wonderful testimony of her own experience with this event. I hope you are blessed in reading about how God totally took this event and used it for His glory!
“Wow is what I will say about the back pack drive. God showed up and blew us away. On Wednesday the 7th we only had about 40 backpacks. So, Mary Hennessy called and ordered 200 backpacks for $4.50 each. That was a blessing, but the big obstacle was getting the money together to fill the backpacks. So I got together our bible study members and our friends.
I asked everyone to branch out and try to get a least 136 people to give $6.00. God’s grace was sprinkled on us… just a little grace like a saltshaker, which is why we are the salt of the world. So, we all just started asking. Our bible study leader works for Costco and went right to work asking people to donate $6.00 – he got a wonderful response. The total money collected was $330, and Costco then donated 200 backpacks on top of the cash raised.
I was so thankful when I got the call, but also worried because now we had more backpacks to fill. So now we needed 336 people to give $6.00 to fill the backpacks! My husband Ricardo looked at me on Friday morning (the day before we would have everyone show up to start stuffing the back packs) and reminded me, ‘God will provide’. I said, ‘YES, you’re right. God will.’ Oddly enough, I had not yet looked in the backpacks we got from Costco… so I went and looked inside simply to see what kind of quality backpacks they were. GOD IS SO GOOD — each back pack had a ruler, two folders, scissors, pencil holder, eraser, glue stick and a glue bottle. I started jumping up and down, screaming ‘Praise God!!’ My kids came running in the room and we asking, ‘What happened? Did we win the lottery?!?’ I said no, but showed them – they know how much I have been working on the backpack drive – and they were so excited to see the way God came through.
Friday night my husband and I set out to buy all the supplies for the backpacks. We kept praying that God would touch the heart of managers at Target, Walmart and Kmart. Target was so amazing – they gave us tax-free supplies. Walmart had a lot of what we needed: 400 binders, 400 crayons, 200 scissors, 275 glue sticks, 400 spiral note books, 375 comp. books, 325 packs of pencils, 400 packs of loose leaf paper. And because of all this, we were absolutely able to share the love of Jesus through this backpack drive. Not only that, but we came in $20.00 under the amount donated! Praise God!! And, the donations keep coming in. The amazing thing is now we have 4 needy teachers that attend Shoreline that we are giving the leftover supplies to. These teacher pay for supplies for their classrooms out of their own packets, and we are now able to help them provide supplies for the children in their classes.”

COMMUNITY OUTREACH UNLEASHED
It was a great day for Community Outreach and for our whole church community last Sunday at the Community Outreach Unleashed event. We want to thank every single one of you who participated and shared great ideas on how to impact our community with the love of Christ. We have gone through all of the ideas that were presented, talked and prayed about them, and have picked out the best/most feasible suggestions. If you were unable to attend this event but do have some other ideas and thoughts to contribute to our Community Outreach ministry, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Contact us by email or by calling the church. We’d love to hear from you!
Our next step, then, is to see these ideas come to life — but we can’t do it alone! We need your help to continue to make this ministry grow and reach people for the sake of Christ. For those of you who are already serving some way in Community Outreach or another area of our church, thank you so much for your gifts of service! If you are new, however, or simply haven’t gotten plugged into a ministry yet, we invite and encourage you to do so! Let us know what areas you are interested or gifted in and we will do our best to help get you involved!
CAPRA PARK – June 12th, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Next Saturday, we will be doing a huge park clean-up in Seaside at Capra Park, located on the corner of Luzern & Sonoma Avenue. Our goal is to share the love of Christ through ministering to our community’s tangible needs. This includes making a positive impact on the neighborhood in order to enable families to use this park, getting increased patrol, and making the park a safer and more enjoyable environment for the residents of that area. Some of the possible things we will be doing are: painting the play equipment and stairs, moving the swing set, clearing out the weeds, repairing a rock wall, painting children’s games on the basketball court, sifting the sand, and putting wood chips along the front strip. We will be partnering with the city of Seaside, the neighboring community, and other Shoreline volunteers. If you know of ways you can contribute to these needs, please let us know. We hope you can join us for this great service opportunity! Questions? Contact Lacy Spangler or Deb Federico, or call the church at 831.655.0100.
URGENT NEED: SHORELINE FOOD PANTRY is in continual need of food donations! We were hit pretty hard this May and our shelves are almost empty. We’ve had an increase of families in need from within the Shoreline family and the community. Please pray for these, and consider what you can give as well.
What is always/especially needed:
- Condiments (mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup)
- Cereal and evaporated milk
- Canned fruit and vegetables
- Tuna and canned meat (hash, spam)
- Desserts (cake mixes, jell-o, pudding)
- Meals in a can, chili, raviolis
- Canned tomatoes, tomato sauce
- Pasta and pasta sauce
- Rice, soup, ramen
- Peanut butter, jam and jelly
- Individual size containers of Vienna sausage, dessert, granola bars, and juice
Our food pantry (and clothes closet) hours are always Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:30-2:30p.m., and other hours by appointment only.
