Exit at Hume Update #4

On June 29, 2011, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Andrew

It’s Wednesday morning and things are going well here at Hume Lake. Last nights chapel service was a huge moment in life of many students as Chris ,our speaker, explained the idea of making Jesus not only our savior but giving Him Lordship over our lives. It was a time of first commitments for several students and lead into wonderfully deep cabin conversation that night. I love to see our students excited to keep the conversations going and not simply to stay up later. Times like these remind me in a huge way that get the middle schoolers away from tv, music, video games, the internet, and so many other distraction can quickly allow them to focus on the important things in life. I often speak with families that would like to limit these things in their child’s life but don’t know how or where to start. For those of you with students here at camp perhaps this can be a time to put new standards and limits in place as the campers return home. They will have just spent one of the most enjoyable weeks of there summer without any of these things so if a change is needed I think now may be the time.

Check back soon for more updates.

Exit at Hume Update #3

On June 28, 2011, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Andrew

With our first full day of camp behind us the campers are well settled in and having a great time. It’s fun to watch how quickly the students feel at home here at Hume and with their roomies. As I stopped by each buys cabin last night it was fun to hear our boys talking about plans for free time and how to win the next recreation game but ever better to find that pretty much all they guys had their first memory verse complete. The memory verses for each day follow along with our camp theme and help the students connect further to what we are learning. Every year it seems hard to get the students started with the verses but this crew has jumped right in. Later today I will post a list of this weeks verses for you to read and also perhaps to memorize. The importance and need for scripture memorization was much of the focus of today’s passage. Take a minute and look up our students verses for today and read for yourself what the students have all been talking about today. You could even try to memorize it your self.

Psalms 119:9-11

What are the counselors say?

Paige Colijn – “This is such a sweet group of girls. They all have such wonderful hearts.”

Spenser Thompson – “I can’t believe all my guys have showered!”

Ryan McKalson – “Our speaker is really bringing this passage to life for the kids.”

Middle School Hume Updates

On June 24, 2011, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Andrew

Next week, June 26th – August 2nd, the Shoreline middle school group will be heading to Hume Lake summer camp. We will be meeting at the church at 8am Sunday morning and making the drive from the coast over to the heat of the valley then up into the mountains. Hume Lake Christian Camp is locate on the beautiful Hume lake in Kings Canyon . During the week the middle schoolers will enjoy swimming, boating, huge group games, day hikes, concerts, and amazing speakers. For all who go this will truly be a high light of this summer and their middle school years. Check back often as Pastor Andrew will be updating us on all the kids are doing at camp. On each post feel free to leave comments or a short message to the students as a comment.

For more information on this years camp theme read below or check out humelake.org

This years theme is: ALL IN

All In explores the lives of Saul and David, examining what it takes to be a person “after God’s own heart,” regardless of the circumstances.

Too often we selfishly seek approval, wisdom, and victory without first seeking the will of God. All In explores how David managed to be called a “man after God’s own heart” despite his human failings, and how Saul lost God’s blessings and succumbed to his pride, jealousy, and fear. Through this theme, we will learn to cultivate a passion to seek God, emulate His character, and strive to be men and women after God’s own heart.

Theme Verse: Psalms 40:8

I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.”

Hume Lake-High School Summer Camp | June 26-July 2

On May 10, 2011, in High School Ministry, Students, by High School Ministry

NO MORE SPOTS AVAILABLE!

Ponderosa also known as “Pondy!” is Hume’s flagship camp at Hume Lake for high school students. One of the many things we love about Hume Lake is the opportunity to get away from the busyness and distractions that students face on a daily basis and have an incredible camp experience. When you come to Pondy, you will hear the gospel preached, be challenged through scripture, engage in sweet worship through music and get some time alone and with your church to process what God did in your life up here at camp. Hume Lake takes pride in its high energy recreation allowing kids to be kids. That includes things like playing in the mud, running the gauntlet, doing the bike jump, and dominating in Kajabe Kan Kan. If you allow it, a week at Ponderosa can and will change your life forever. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
