Anchor Bay Diving Deep #15

On December 27, 2009, in Children's Ministry (Anchor Bay), by Children's Ministry

This week’s question is: What if I don’t understand God?

Have you ever felt your life is unfair? Have you ever questioned God? Well, guess what, you’re not the only one! After all the terrible things that happened to Job he questioned God too. And guess what! God answered him with a few questions of his own! Read them in Job 38-41. GO AHEAD I DARE YOU!

Finished reading? Tough questions huh? Choose your favorite verse out of this passage, and draw a picture of what you read. Hang your picture in your room to remind you that God knows everything and can do everything.

No matter what happens, we don’t need to question God- whatever he has planned for his people is best!

Anchor Bay Diving Deep #13

This week’s question is: What if I’m worried about going to Heaven?

Making you worry about your salvation is one of the tricks that the devil tries to play on Christians sometimes. You can use this list of verses to tell him to be quiet the same way Jesus did when he was tested by the devil in the wilderness, using God’s Word. These verses will also help you if you aren’t a Christian yet, they will show you what to do to get to heaven.

John 3:16, “for God so loved the world…”

John 3: 17-18,” God sent his son…”

Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death…”

Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth…”

Ephesians 2: 8-9, “God saved you by his grace…”

1 John 4:10, “This is real love- not…”

1 John 5:12, “Whoever has the Son has life…”

Anchor Bay Diving Deep #12

this week’s question is: Does God answer all our prayers?

God does always answer our prayers, but he doesn’t always give us the answer we want. Suppose you really wanted to go away to summer camp one year. You pray and pray, but Dad and Mom decided they needed you to be at home to help the family. Did God answer your prayer? Yes, even though it wasn’t the answer you wanted.

We should always remember that God is a lot smarter than we are. He knows the future, and he knows what’s best for you. Next time you pray for something and God says no or not right now, thank him for knowing what’s best for you. That’s what the Apostle Paul did when God told him no one time. Read about it in 2 Corinthians 12:7-9.

Anchor Bay Diving Deep #9

this week’s question is: Who is the Holy Spirit?

Like God the Father and Jesus, the Holy Spirit is God. Wait, does that mean there are 3 Gods? Nope! At the heart of the Christian faith is a giant mystery. (No, not the kind a detective solves. This mystery is a truth that is not easy for humans to understand). Here it is: there is only one god, but he has always existed as three persons- the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy spirit. Just like Jesus came to earth with a special purpose- to save us- the Holy Spirit has a special role too. Actually he has a few.

Here are some of the things he does: The Holy Spirit shows people their sin so that they’ll believe in Jesus and be saved (John 16:8). He lives inside of Christians (see Romans 8:9-11) and helps them live in a way that honors Jesus (see Galatians 5:22-24). the Holy Spirit living in us is God’s seal of ownership on us. And the Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts that we can use to serve God.

Check out these lists of spiritual gifts

Romans 12: 6-8

1 Corinthians 12: 4-11

1 Peter 4: 10-11

Holy Spirit also helps us remember God’s word and helps us to pray which we’ll be learning about in class the next couple of weeks!

Ask Dr. Logos

On July 24, 2009, in Children's Ministry (Anchor Bay), by Children's Ministry

Dear Dr. Logos,
Who wrote the Bible?
Sincerely,
Curiously Contemplating

Dear Curious,
Good question! The Bible has more than forty different authors and only one author! Sound confusing? Not really!
God is the one true author of Scripture. From Genesis to Revelation, it all comes from him. That’s why we call it God’s word. Now here’s the tricky part: God chose to use more than forty different human authors to do the actual writing.
That’s what it means when people say the Bible is “inspired by God” or “God-breathed.” God inspired Moses, for example, to write the first five books of the Bible. That means that God guided Moses along so that he wrote exactly what God wanted him to write. God did the same thing with the prophets like Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel. God inspired King David to write many of the Psalms. And God inspired the Apostle Paul, who wrote 13 of the New Testament books. Get the idea?

Now take some time to look up these verses, which tell a little bit more about the Bible-writing process
2 Timothy 3:16-17
2 Peter 1:20-21
