Weekly Reading :: 8.4.13

On August 3, 2013, in Featured-Auto, Weekly Reading, by Shoreline

Reading Plan for next week’s message

SundayMark 10:17-31
Monday2 Corinthians 8:1-9
Tuesday2 Corinthians 9:6-15
Wednesday1 Timothy 6:6-10, 17-19
ThursdayMatthew 6:19-34
FridayLuke 16:1-15
SaturdayLuke 16:19-31

Memorize/Reflect:  “The Righteous will shine forth as the sun in the Kingdom of their Father.”
(Matthew 13:43)

Prayer Direction:  Thank God for His patience with the evil in our lives and the world. Ask for strength to stand strong for Jesus, even while evil grows up around us. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you see where you are tempted to give in to the enticements and presence of evil in our world…then, resist in the power of Jesus.

“Live It!” Challenge – Pull Weeds: In this parable Jesus is clear that the weeds, evil, and enticements of this world will be around until the end of time. We can’t expect Him to pull these weeds. What we can do is remove the weeds in our own life. Take time to inspect the garden of your life. Where are there weeds? Where have the enticements of this world and the evil one taken root in your life and heart? When you identify a place there are weeds, take time to pull them by repenting, confessing, and changing how you are living.

Small Group Discussion: The Wheat and the Tares

    1. What does it mean to be called a Christian? What do other people think when they hear someone say, “I am a Christian”?
    2. Read: Daniel 7:8-14. What is the meaning of this vision? Who is this “Son of Man” in verses 13-14 and what do we learn about Him in this passage?
    3. Read: Matthew 6:8-13. What do you think Jesus means when He calls us to pray, “Thy Kingdom come”?
    4. What are ways you have seen the Kingdom of God break into your home, relationships, life, the church, or our world?
    5. Read: Matthew 13:24-30. What are the characteristics of the wheat? What are the characteristics of the weeds (tares)?
    6. No one likes the idea of judgment. But, this passage and the whole Bible teaches us that judgment will come. Why must judgment fall?
    7. What can we do to help people escape judgment and find the love and grace God offers through His only Son Jesus Christ?
    8. When we become followers of Jesus, we are invited to live His Kingdom life…every day. What are ways we can live out the power and dominion of Jesus in our daily lives?
