Outreach Update for 11.17.09

On November 17, 2009, in Community Outreach, by CommunityOutreach

COMheader0Community Outreach is as busy as ever with the holidays officially here. So far this week, we have made placemats for the Thanksgiving celebration at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, visited the women’s shelter, and donated over 450 boxes in support of Operation Christmas Child…and it’s only Tuesday!

KION-Branding0It’s time to clean out those pantries! Come out to Shoreline TOMORROW night, Wednesday November 18th, from 4-8 p.m. as local television station KION broadcasts live from our property at 2500 Garden Road in Monterey.  KION has chosen Shoreline as one of their hosts for the Holiday Harvest Food Drive. Please come by between 4 and 8 to drop off canned goods or a cash donation. Cash donations go very far. Just $10 can be stretched into $840 of food and that’s just the beginning!

November’s Shoreline Clean-Up Day, November 28th from 9 am-2pm, will be here before we know it.  Please consider dropping by to help us beautify the property and help get it ready for the Christmas season as we will have our work cut out for us.

If you have been affected by the recent economic downturn and are in need of food assistance, Shoreline’s Food Pantry is here to help.  The hours for this much-needed service have changed and are now 12:30-2:30 pm and 5:30-6 pm by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

If you would like any information regarding these or any other opportunities to serve, please contact Deb Federico at dfederico@shorelinechurch.org or Megan Huff at mhuff@shorelinechurch.org at 831.655.0100 x338.

Great things happening daily in the Community Outreach Department!

On March 24, 2009, in Community Outreach, by CommunityOutreach

Both Serve Saturday (feeding the homeless at Dorothy’s Kitchen) and the Convalescent Home visits in the last two weeks were great successes. We were blessed to have new workers join our team. As the team grows, so can the lives we impact for Christ.   As reported previously, our Food Pantry is in the final stages of readiness.  We have a new refrigerator for that usage and two enthusiastic coordinators, Bob and Sherri Peters. All that’s left to do is go shopping and ask you to pray if God wants to use you in this great, hands-on ministry. We are now inviting people to volunteer for 2 hour shifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays (hours yet to be determined).  Call 655-0100 or contact dfederico@shorelinechurch.org or jatwell@shorelinechurch.org if you want to be considered for a position with the Food Pantry.  All volunteers will be fully equipped and trained.

Also this last week we introduced our e-newsletter, “The Community Outreach Minute” to our team members.  We will be emailing them out on a weekly basis to keep people abreast of what’s happening in our department, but also of upcoming service needs. If you aren’t getting one, and would like to, please call Jennifer at 655-0100 or email at jatwell@shorelinechurch.org. Not only will this save some trees, we will be able to get up to the day news out to you, and it’s just one more place to hear about Community Outreach. For our friends that aren’t online, we will always have some printed copies at the booth on Sundays. Also, we are always open for new and creative ideas for where/how our team can serve. We value your imput and want to encourage service through many different channels that are appropriate for the church. Please feel free to contact either of us and we will bring your ideas to our advisory team. We’re here to serve Jesus and the church, our community and you!

Hope & Benevolence-Community Outreach kicks off Food Pantry

On February 21, 2009, in Community Outreach, by CommunityOutreach

food-pantry-for-webStarting in March, Shoreline Community Church will become an official food pantry for The Food Bank for Monterey County. The Food Bank is part of America’s Second Harvest Food Bank. The Food Bank believes, as do we, the effects of the downturn in the economic situation in our area are greatly impacting many in our community and will continue to do so.  Did you know the Food Bank of Monterey County serves over 50,000 monthly? More people than ever before will need our help in these difficult times.  During the 2006-2007 fiscal year they served 36,218 households through the Emergency Food Assistance Program alone. In 2007-2008, they served 55,964 households, an increase of 54%. We at Shoreline want to be able to help our community  stretch those food dollars.  In March and April we are going to conduct another food and basic needs drive to help stock our pantry  (along with being able to stock from the food bank).  Every month we are having a drive of some kind. When you pack up for church on Sundays, please remember how you can help so many by bringing in your items for the less fortunate. Please give as generously as you can. These are just some of the items we would like to collect:

  • Detergents, soaps, toiletries
  • Diapers (all sizes)
  • Diaper Wipes
  • Towels, Wash Clothes
  • New underwear & socks (adults and kids) for our clothes closet

Small appliances and furniture, please call the church or contact dfederico@shorelinechurch.org or jatwell@shorelinechurch.org. Also we are looking for a refrigerator for our food pantry. Thank you so much as you continue to share your blessings.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.  I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.  I was sick and you looked after me.  I was in prison and you came to visit me. Matthew 25:35-36
