Join us for our second Open Mic Night of 2011! This is a family friendly event where people of all ages share their talents in songwriting and poetry. It will take place at 6:30 in The Garage (youth room) – snacks, coffee, and tea will be provided. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed, and everyone is welcome. At our last event we had nearly 100 people in attendance, and about 17 performers. Make sure to get there early to claim a seat!
At Shoreline we value the creativity that God has given artists from all walks of life. We want our church to be a place where people feel comfortable expressing that art, so come on out and support the musicians and poets who will be sharing. There are still a few performance spots left, so if you’d like to perform please contact music@shorelinechurch.org.
See you on Friday Aug. 5th!

If you’re a fan of the blues, you don’t want to miss Monterey’s yearly celebration of blues music! Each year at the Monterey fairgrounds, dozens of artists come together for a weekend of live blues music. This year celebrates a quarter century of festivals, and is sure to be a blast. It will be held on the weekend of June 25th – 27th. Visit www.montereyblues.com for tickets and more information.
Here at Shoreline we like to stay current with what’s going on in the community, and for the last several years we bring in our very own blues band to lead us into worship. Sam Cannon, one of our Music Ministry’s guitarists, will be leading us with his blues band on Sunday morning, June 27th. Please don’t miss this fun time of worship through a classic musical style – it’s sure to be a fantastic morning!

What a great day we all had at the beach this last Sunday! The sunshine made a special appearance for our Memorial Day weekend, and our Music Ministry BBQ/Bonfire was a great success. After grilling hamburgers and hot dogs and hanging out for a few hours, we settled down around a bonfire. Dave Hopkins led us in some old classic songs like “Lean on Me” and “Knockin on Heaven’s Door,” and we all sang together – laughing and clapping along. As the day went on we got to watch yet another beautiful sunset over the Pacific, and that’s when the smore making started! All in all it was a great day, and we want to thank all the choir members, tech team, musicians, singers, and pastors who showed up to make this a great social event. The beach was packed and buzzing with holiday activity, and it was great to hang out with each other outside the four walls of church! Be sure to stay tuned for our next beach party, which will take place in August. You don’t want to miss it!

If you’re not already part of our volunteer Music Ministry team, we’d love for you to join us! Our purpose in the Music Ministry is to help people connect with God through music. This includes both the congregation and the players/singers in the band! At Shoreline, we want to give our very best to God during the worship services. We have been blessed with wonderful resources and technology, and with that comes great responsibility.
You may have heard the expression about music quality or musician quality, “…it’s good enough for church.” In our ministry, we try to rise above that and set the bar for what church music should be. Centuries ago, it was music that was coming out of churches that set the standard for music in culture. We’ve come a long way from that, but at Shoreline we don’t want to follow the trend of simply following culture. As our ministry grows and moves forward, we want to encourage creative, artistic, and quality expressions of music in our worship times. We feel that this will not only draw people in who may be skeptical about church, but also help our church family worship more freely.
We have a big job ahead, but that’s an exciting thing! Join us each Sunday in lifting up our God as best as we possibly can. He deserves nothing but our best, so let’s give it to Him!
