Easter Season Reading

Sunday- Mark 12
Monday- Mark 13
Tuesday- Mark 14
Wednesday- Mark 15
Thursday- Luke 22
Friday- Luke 23
Saturday- Luke 24

Bible in a Year (Chronological Reading)

Sunday- Deuteronomy 21-23
Monday- Deuteronomy 24-27
Tuesday- Deuteronomy 28-29
Wednesday- Deuteronomy 30-31
Thursday- Deuteronomy 32-34; Psalm 91
Friday- Joshua 1-4
Saturday- Joshua 5-8

Memorize/Reflect: “Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

Personal Reflection: What was Jesus’ attitude and spirit as he walked toward the cross? How did the various groups of people treat Jesus as He was suffering and going through the trials and torment He faced?

Discussion: What do we learn about the love of God as we read about the cross and the suffering of Jesus? What impact does the resurrection of Jesus have on your daily life and walk of faith?

Prayer Direction: Thank God that Jesus is alive and that His resurrection brings victory over sin, death, and the enemy. Ask God to unleash His resurrection power in your daily life

“Live It!” Challenge: Invite one person to come to a worship service in the Easter season…many people are more open to spiritual things and an invitation to church during this time of the year.

Monthly Prayer Focus: This Easter season we will focus on praying for the power of the risen Jesus to be alive in the lives of people we care about. This week, please pray for the glory and presence of the risen Christ to be experienced by your family members.

Extra Resources for this week: During the Easter season, consider reading the gospels as listed in the reading above and also books such as: He Did This For You by Max Lucado and The Case for Easter by Lee Strobel.

Small Group Resources for this week: The Story Small Groups will take a break during the Easter season. We encourage the groups to plan one service project or have a social gathering during this time off. There will be no small group materials provided for the Easter series except what you find below.

Bible in a Year (Chronological Reading)

Wednesday- Deuteronomy 8-10
Thursday- Deuteronomy 11-13
Friday- Deuteronomy 14-16
Saturday- Deuteronomy 17-20

Memorize/Reflect: “But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God” (Ruth 1:16)

Personal Reflection: Who is a person that has been devoted to you and hung in there with you through the hard times? Who is going through a hard time and how might you be there for this person?

Discussion: How did God guide and lead Ruth through a very hard time of loss and pain? How have you experienced God’s care and presence in the hard and dark times of life?

Prayer Direction: Pray for people you care about who are going through a difficult time. Ask for God’s provision and pray that you can find creative ways to care for and support them.

“Live It!” Challenge: Come alongside a friend or family member who is in a tough and dark time. Think of something you can do that will help them sense the care and love of God in a tangible way.

Monthly Prayer Focus: Let others pray for you. If you are going through a tough time right now, send a note or call a few friends, tell them what you are facing, and let them pray for you. Also, come forward after a service at Shoreline and let someone pray for you.

Extra Resources for this week: Buy a copy of The Story at the Shoreline Bookstore. You also might want to consider buying a study Bible. We also have a great children’s story book you might want to get and read with your children or grandchildren. If you want to go deeper, buy and read: Exploring The Story, by Adam Barr.

Small Group Resources for this week: Chapter 9 of The Story: Getting to the Heart of God’s Story (Adult Curriculum). You can purchase this 31-week study for 40% off at the Shoreline Bookstore. (If you can’t afford this and are going to be part of a group, please contact Romel.)

Tuesday- The Story – Chapter 9 (pgs.123-125)
Wednesday- Ruth Chapter 2
Thursday- Ruth Chapter 3
Friday- The Story – Chapter 9 (pgs.125-127)

Bible in a Year (Chronological Reading)

Sunday- Numbers 21-22
Monday- Numbers 23-25
Tuesday- Numbers 26-27
Wednesday- Numbers 28-30
Thursday- Numbers 31-32
Friday- Numbers 33-34
Saturday- Numbers 35-36

Memorize/Reflect: “After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel. 11 Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals.” (Judges 2:10-11)

Personal Reflection: In the book of Judges there is a cycle of sin, judgment, crying to God, deliverance, a time of peace, and eventually apathy and sin entered in again. How do you see this pattern in your life? What can you do to break this cycle of sin?

Discussion: Which judge do you find most interesting and what do you learn from this judge’s life?

Prayer Direction: Pray for awareness when patterns of sin and apathy come creeping into your life. Confess where you see a pattern of sin in your life right now.

“Live It!” Challenge: Make a drawing of the pattern of sin that the people of God went through over and over again (this can be found on pages 103 and 104 of The Story or Judges Chapter 2). Do this by drawing a circle to represent the cycle and then write in the various seasons the people went through. Identify where you are in this cycle right now.

Monthly Prayer Focus: The people of God would often stray from God’s ways when a leader transitioned out and a new leader was needed. Pray for Shoreline to do transitions well with all of our leaders including staff, L-Team members, and other volunteers.

Extra Resources for this week: Buy a copy of The Story at the Shoreline Bookstore. You also might want to consider buying a study Bible.
