BACKPACK DRIVE – Ongoing May 23rd-July 10th
We are already in the second week of our annual Backpack Drive, and we have had very few donations thus far. We are graciously asking our church to really come alongside and team up with us in this very special outreach opportunity. We do this Backpack Drive in order to provide for the children in the Monterey County whose families do not have enough funds to purchase materials necessary for their children to start school prepared. Last year we were able to provide over 300 backpacks to children in Monterey County, but this year the need is much greater. It is our goal to send out 800 stuffed backpacks… but we need your help!
We are simply asking that while you are out shopping for your own children, that you consider buying some items for these children in need. You can drop off the backpacks and school supplies in the bins located in the lobby, or at the Community Outreach Booth on Sundays or any day of the week from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
LIST OF ITEMS NEEDED:
Backpacks
Pens and #2 Pencils
Safe Scissors
3 Ring Binders
Loose Leaf Paper
Colored Pencils and Crayons
Composition Books
On July 10th, Tina Morales and Mary Hennessy are organizing a group of people who will be stuffing the backpacks with all the donated supplies. Please consider helping out with this very important event!
If you would like more information or have any questions, you may contact Deb Federico (dfederico@shorelinechurch.org // 831.655.0100 x312) or Megan Koontz (mkoontz@shorelinechurch.org // 831.655.0100 x338).

COMMUNITY OUTREACH UNLEASHED
It was a great day for Community Outreach and for our whole church community last Sunday at the Community Outreach Unleashed event. We want to thank every single one of you who participated and shared great ideas on how to impact our community with the love of Christ. We have gone through all of the ideas that were presented, talked and prayed about them, and have picked out the best/most feasible suggestions. If you were unable to attend this event but do have some other ideas and thoughts to contribute to our Community Outreach ministry, please don’t hesitate to let us know. Contact us by email or by calling the church. We’d love to hear from you!
Our next step, then, is to see these ideas come to life — but we can’t do it alone! We need your help to continue to make this ministry grow and reach people for the sake of Christ. For those of you who are already serving some way in Community Outreach or another area of our church, thank you so much for your gifts of service! If you are new, however, or simply haven’t gotten plugged into a ministry yet, we invite and encourage you to do so! Let us know what areas you are interested or gifted in and we will do our best to help get you involved!
CAPRA PARK – June 12th, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Next Saturday, we will be doing a huge park clean-up in Seaside at Capra Park, located on the corner of Luzern & Sonoma Avenue. Our goal is to share the love of Christ through ministering to our community’s tangible needs. This includes making a positive impact on the neighborhood in order to enable families to use this park, getting increased patrol, and making the park a safer and more enjoyable environment for the residents of that area. Some of the possible things we will be doing are: painting the play equipment and stairs, moving the swing set, clearing out the weeds, repairing a rock wall, painting children’s games on the basketball court, sifting the sand, and putting wood chips along the front strip. We will be partnering with the city of Seaside, the neighboring community, and other Shoreline volunteers. If you know of ways you can contribute to these needs, please let us know. We hope you can join us for this great service opportunity! Questions? Contact Lacy Spangler or Deb Federico, or call the church at 831.655.0100.
URGENT NEED: SHORELINE FOOD PANTRY is in continual need of food donations! We were hit pretty hard this May and our shelves are almost empty. We’ve had an increase of families in need from within the Shoreline family and the community. Please pray for these, and consider what you can give as well.
What is always/especially needed:
- Condiments (mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup)
- Cereal and evaporated milk
- Canned fruit and vegetables
- Tuna and canned meat (hash, spam)
- Desserts (cake mixes, jell-o, pudding)
- Meals in a can, chili, raviolis
- Canned tomatoes, tomato sauce
- Pasta and pasta sauce
- Rice, soup, ramen
- Peanut butter, jam and jelly
- Individual size containers of Vienna sausage, dessert, granola bars, and juice
Our food pantry (and clothes closet) hours are always Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12:30-2:30p.m., and other hours by appointment only.
