This week we will be meeting at Oh! Sushi at 8:00 p.m. This week we will be discussing a very important idea that Paul talked about over and over again as he was advising the early church. How do we embrace the world we live in without being conformed to it? Early Christians had to navigate this problem during the first century of the Christian church, and we are still trying to figure it out today.
Here are a few verses to get you started as you think about the topic:
1 Corinthians 9:22 vs. 1 Corinthians 10:32
1 Corinthians 5:9-13
Romans 12: 2
1 Thessalonians 4: 1-12 vs. Ephesians 5: 1-14
How can we find a delicate balance? Come with thoughts and examples in which you may have struggled with this concept in your own life.

“I could not help thinking that somewhere along the way we had missed what is radical about our faith and replaced it with what is comfortable. We were settling for a Christianity that revolves around catering to ourselves when the central message of Christianity is actually about abandoning ourselves” – David Platt
This week we will be talking about how our faith is affected by living in this particular time, and specifically, in America. In other words, does American culture encourage us to pick up our cross daily, or has it created a nominal devotion that doesn’t infringe upon our comforts. Also, how can we positively take steps towards change instead of just talking about it? This will in no way be a “bash America session”, but a discussion about how American culture affects our faith and what we can do to bring the culture that Jesus Christ preached about more fully to earth.
Here are a few passages that will help you start to form some ideas about the topic:
Philippians 3: 12-21
Luke 14: 26-34
Mark 10: 17-31
Matthew 4: 18-22
Come ready to share your thoughts and and ideas on what it looks like to follow the example of Christ’s life and live in a way pleasing to God, yet within our culture.
We will be meeting at Oh! Sushi at 8:00 p.m. (2030 N. Fremont St., Monterey, CA, 93940) We hope to see everyone there!

It seems like there are cretin topics within the church that are considered off limits – subjects that are easier to avoid than talk about – they are the untouchables. As we explore the “American Dreams” series in main service and have opened up the conversation on several of these untouchable topics here at Shoreline. With that in mind at Oxygen we are taking a full look at several areas that are very often avoided with a series we are calling the “Untouchables”. This series is all about the tough topics.
As young Christians in our world today, we know we can’t ignore God’s perspective on issues just because that are difficult – that logic won’t fly with our generation. We ask questions and expect answers, or at least honest discussion or admission of our lack of knowledge. Most of the time people avoid topics because they don’t feel qualified to speak on the tough issues.
We hope through this series we can help equip those who attend to be able to process these tough issues through scripture and Gods leading. Honestly it’s a little scary to tackle subjects like Homosexuality, death, disability, and racism, but these are all things that God has given us direction to follow. The topics are tough and may seem Untouchable, good thing God knew we would face them.
Join us for Untouchables now through June 13th.
