Weekly Reading :: 07.24.11

On July 23, 2011, in Weekly Reading, by Shoreline

Reading for the Week of July 24 – 30

Day 1- Matthew 4
Day 2- Luke 4 and John 8:42-47
Day 3- Job 1
Day 4- Job 2
Day 5- Ephesians 6:10-20 and 1 Peter 5:6-9
Day 6- Revelation 2
Bonus- Revelation 20 and 2 Corinthians 10:1-6

Memorize/Reflect - “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you” (James 4:7-8)

Personal Reflection- What are some of the tactics and temptations the enemy tries to use against me? What are some of the ways I can resist and fight against the devil’s schemes and tactics?

Discussion- When you look at our world and culture, what are some of the regular and common tactics the enemy is using to pull people into sin and away from God? Why is it so important that we identify the tactics of the enemy and recognize where he is seeking to attack us? What are some of the consequences if we ignore the attacks of the devil in our lives, homes, and world?

Prayer Direction- Pray for open eyes to see the attacks and methods of the enemy. Ask for God’s power and strength to resist and fight back.

“Live It!” Challenge - Jesus quoted from the Bible each time the enemy tried to tempt him. Identify a specific area you face with temptation and find one or two short passages in the Bible that would help you fight back. Write these on a card or put them in your phone. Every time you feel temptation growing in this area, read over these passage, meditate on their truth and fight back!

Monthly Prayer Focus: This July we will focus our prayers on traveling, every day, with Jesus. Identify the places you face the greatest temptation and pray in two ways. First, pray for power to avoid these places. If you can’t avoid them, ask for power to stand strong when you travel through these places.

Resources for this week: If you don’t have your own Bible, visit the Shoreline Bookstore, or talk with one of our pastors about getting a free Bible. If you don’t know the sweeping and epic story of the Bible, consider reading The Story. There are copies available in the Bookstore.
