Experiencing God – Middle School Discipleship Class

On September 8, 2010, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Shoreline

Next month we are excited to begin our new middle school discipleship track here at Shoreline. Throughout the school year we will be offering three courses to help further develop the students in mature followers of Christ. Our new program starts with Experiencing God and will begin in mid October.  Adapted from the best-selling adult study, students learn to hear God in new ways. Through this exciting, truly compelling 9-week study of the Bible we will help them:

  • Learn to hear when God is speaking
  • Find out how God is speaking
  • Find out where God is working and join Him
  • Experience God doing what only He can do
  • This phenomenal discipleship resource has helped millions of believers develop a more intimate relationship with God. Through personal and group study, the students will learn how to recognize when God is speaking. What’s more, this resource helps young Christians understand the importance of His timing and how to respond obediently. The result of this obedience is a fresh and exciting spiritual walk. Translated into 50 languages, this in-depth, small-group study has helped change countless lives around the world. We hope that through this study we can get our students ready to begin Experiencing God at work through their lives. For more information please contact Pastor Andrew at andrew@shorelinechurch.org

EXIT – Game Night! September 17th

On September 2, 2010, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Shoreline

    Middle School Game Night!

Friday night Sept 17th Exit our middle school group will be having an epic game night here at Shoreline. Every game night we top the last and the games get crazier! This is a must for all 6th to 8th graders as it’s one of the biggest events of the year. So if your ready to chug clam juice, smash eggs with fish, spin to you fall, and win great prizes then this is your night. Come to play or just to watch but either way bring a friend for an amazing evening. In the Shoreline youth room at 6pm on Sept 17th.

Parents we are always looking for more volunteers so why not come hangout for the night to see how you might get involved with the middle school team. One way to help would be to provide snacks such as chips, popcorn, or finger foods for our events. Contact Pastor Andrew for more information.

Developing habits that will change your life. Week #2

On August 15, 2010, in Middle School - EXIT, Students, by Shoreline

This week we are looking at the habit of accountability. Sunday morning several of the middle school leaders shared about times when accountability has played a large role in their life and how they stay accountable on a regular basis. From these stories Danny went into scripture to teach through accountability as we find it in scripture. At Exit we strive to teach the students that you can’t make it through life alone and being held accountable my bothers in part of our community.

Below is a short outline to help continue the conversation at home. Please contact Pastor Andrew with any questions or leave a comment on this post to share your thoughts with other readers.

    ACCOUNTABILITY ADDS UP…

Accountability adds INSIGHT to your decisions Result: direction

Fools think they need no advice, but the wise listen to others. Proverbs 12:15

Accountability adds TRUTH to your perception Result: perspective

Wounds from a friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. Proverbs 27:6

Accountability adds HOPE when you’re hurting Result: healing

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and wonderful results.

    James 5:16

Accountability adds FAITH to your journey Result: spiritual growth

As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend. Proverbs 27:17

    Deeper friends=Better Life=Greater impact=People meet Jesus=Lives are changed

    MOVING FROM FRIENDSHIP TO ACCOUNTABILITY

    1. Meet FAITHFULLY
    2. Speak TRUTHFULLY
    3. Admit STRUGGLES
    4. Encourage STRENGTHS
    5. Challenge SPIRITUALLY

One last thought: Developing this habit will change your FRIENDSHIPS & your LIFE.

College Group 1st and 2nd Timothy Study #8

On August 13, 2010, in Oxygen (Young Adults), Students, by Shoreline

With this post we look at the last chapter of 2nd Timothy. I hope these post have helped you as we have walked through 1st and 2nd Timothy the last couple weeks. If your up for a challenge take time to read first and second Timothy each day for a few weeks and see what happens in your life. The love and encouragement that Paul poured out to Timothy two thousand years is incredible instruction for us still today. Please take time to give feed back to Pastor Andrew if you have found this series of post helpful.

    2 Timothy 4:1-8

    MOTIVATION FOR GREATNESS

Timothy was Paul’s “son” in the Lord.

Timothy would do special assignments at the direction of Paul.

Paul would soon be leaving Timothy and going to Heaven.

Paul motivates Timothy to great living for the Lord.

    EXHORTATION OF TIMOTHY – Vss. 1-2, 5

Timothy was encouraged to preach the Word of God faithfully, to be on the watch, to endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, and to fully prove his ministry.

    EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES – Vss. 3-4

Timothy need to be faithful at the current time because more difficult times were coming.

EXAMPLE OF PAUL – Vss. 6-8

Paul was faithful to the end.

Paul would be rewarded in the future.

Those, like Timothy, who are faithful also will be equally rewarded.

    2 Timothy 4:9-11, 21

    PEOPLE LESSONS

Those mentioned by Paul at the close of this Epistle teach us some very important Spiritual lessons.

DEMAS – BE SPIRITUAL, LIVE FOR ETERNITY Vs. 10

    Philemon 23, 24, Colossians 4:14

LUKE – BE LOYAL, LIVE FOR CONSISTENCY Vs. 11

    “Only Luke is with me…”

    Proverbs 27:10, 1 Corinthians 4:2

MARK – BE USEFUL, LIVE FOR MINISTRY Vs. 11

“…Take Mark and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for

    the ministry.”

    What a change! Acts 13:13, Acts 15:36-41

TIMOTHY – BE PUNCTUAL, LIVE FOR IMMEDIACY Vss. 9, 21

Paul had a special need for Timothy as Paul prepared for his home

going. It was important that Timothy act right away. There are times

when we must act immediately to do what needs to be done.

In some cases tomorrow is too late!

College Group 1st and 2nd Timothy Study #7

On August 11, 2010, in Oxygen (Young Adults), Students, by Shoreline

As we continue 2nd Timothy the challenges just get harder. 2nd Timothy chapter 3 is a place we should turn to frequently for a reminder of the courage we must have to live out our faith. As with the other readings take time to read the passage as a whole and not simply the verses we are focusing on. 1st and 2nd Timothy are wonderful letters that can truly inspire us to live out our faith in a bold and loving fashion.

    2 Timothy 3:1-7

    GUT CHECK!

When we say a person “has guts” we mean that they have courage.

A “gut check” is a situation that puts us to the test to see whether we have “guts” or courage.

2 Timothy 3:1-7 talks about the “last days”, which we are probably in.

These verses are also a challenge to Christians to take a gut check!  Do we have the courage of our convictions?

WHAT DO I LOVE? Vss. 1-4

Do I love myself more than I love God?

Do I love pleasure more than I love God? Vs. 4

    HOW DO I LIVE? – Vss. 5-6

Do I have just a form of godliness, without any real power to live a godly life?

That power is the result of being yielded and having faith. Galatians 2:20, Romans 6:11-14

    HOW DO I LEARN? – Vs. 7

Many Christians sit in church and Sunday School, but never learn. Their lives never change.

Oh, they may have some “head knowledge” but they lack “heart knowledge”. They have not applied what they have learned to daily living.
