Weekly Reading :: 10.09.11

On October 8, 2011, in Weekly Reading, by Shoreline

Reading for the Week of October 9 -15

Day 1- Matthew 1:18-2:23 (Jesus is Born)
Day 2- John 19 (Jesus is Crucified)
Day 3- John 20 (Jesus is Risen)
Day 4- Philippians 2:1-11 and Colossians 1:15-23 (Jesus is Lord)
Day 5- Hebrews 1-2 (Jesus is Better)
Day 6- Hebrews 3 and 10 (Jesus is Better)
Bonus- Revelation 1, 5 and 21 (Jesus Rules and Reigns)

Memorize/Reflect - “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.” (Hebrews 1:3)

Personal Reflection- How is Jesus alive and working in your life today? What can you do to walk in greater intimacy and closeness with Jesus as you go through a normal day?

Discussion- How did you come to faith in Jesus? Who were the people that modeled a vibrant life of faith and how has their relationship with Jesus impacted your life? What are some creative ways you and I can let others know how real and powerful Jesus is?

Prayer Direction- Thank Jesus for His sinless life, his sacrificial death on the cross (in your place for your sins), and for the victory of His resurrection. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you to be more like Jesus as you live your daily life. Pray for the people in your life who need to know the love and grace of Jesus.

“Live It!” Challenge - Pray about registering for the Organic Outreach Conference on November 10-12. Ask God to bless this gathering and inspire each person to be more effective in sharing the love, grace, and message of Jesus with people who are not yet in God’s family.

Monthly Prayer Focus: This October we will be praying about the future of Shoreline Community Church. Ask God to keep all of our church Pastors, Directors, Staff, and Leadership Team members focused on Jesus and committed to bringing His love to the world.

Resources for this week: As we walk through week one of our, “I Have a Dream” series you might want to read chapters 1-3 of Pastor Kevin’s book, Seismic Shifts…the little changes that make a BIG difference in your life.

God Time and Parent Cue :: 10.2.11

On October 2, 2011, in Children's Ministry (Anchor Bay), by Children's Ministry

CREATIVITY~Using your imagination to do something unique. This month in The Cove it is all about creativity. Your first – fifth grade child will be learning how to use their imaginations to figure out how to do good works, which God prepared in advance for them to do.  In fact the memory verse is:  “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  Ephesians 2:10NIV

Each Sunday afternoon you can download the Parent Cue, to continue the lesson at home.  The cue communicates four things: the month’s virtue, the month’s memory verse, the week’s Bible story, and a specific question(s) for parents to ask their child and talk about.  Also available to download is the God Time sheet for your kids; with daily activities related to Sunday’s lesson.  Thanks for checking in and partnering with the Crew from The Cove!

Weekly Reading :: 10.02.11

On October 1, 2011, in Weekly Reading, by Shoreline

Reading for the Week of October 2 – 8

Day 1- Exodus 15
Day 2- Exodus 16
Day 3- Exodus 17
Day 4- Numbers 14
Day 5- Numbers 16
Day 6- 1 Corinthians 10
Bonus- Philippians 2

Memorize/Reflect - “Do everything without grumbling or arguing…” (Philippians 2:14)

Personal Reflection- What is my default button? Do I tend to grumble and complain, or do I have a joyful spirit? Am I quick to affirm and praise, or criticize and whine? What is one way I can be more Christ-honoring and positive with my words?

Discussion- Who is a person you know that rarely complains and often has a word of blessing to bring to others? What is one way you can imitate the example of this person?

Prayer Direction- Thank God for speaking blessing into your life, even when He could have cursed you! Ask for ears to hear when you are speaking negative and hurtful words. Pray for power and a commitment to speak words of blessing every single day.

“Live It!” Challenge - Watch your mouth…right where you live. Make a commitment to do these two specific things in the coming week. First, guard your mouth and do all you can to avoid complaining, whining, and negative talk. Second, go out of your way to share one kind and affirming thing with each person in your family (or with each roommate) every day of the coming week. See how this impacts your living situation.

Monthly Prayer Focus: Through October we will continue focusing our prayers on Shoreline Ministries. Take time this week to pray for Keith Krueger as he leads our finance and facilities ministries. Ask God to raise up many new volunteers to serve in these areas of Shoreline’s ministry.

Resources for this week: Read Chapter 10 of Pastor Kevin’s book, Seismic Shifts.
